MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
MARCH 13, 2014
OF FAMILY
MET
COUNCIL
POPULATION
PROJECTIONS
ADJOURN
proposed that the reference be replaced with the phrase "of the applicable
building code ".
Schwalbach recommended approval of the ordinance amendment Chapter
902 of the Little Canada Zoning Code to address a cross referencing error
in the definition of "family ".
Motion seconded by Duray.
Motion carried 6 — 0.
The City Planner reminded the Commission of the Metropolitan Council
population projections that came out last fall which significantly increased
Little Canada's population goals for the year 2040. The Planner reported
that when these projections came up there was significant concern
expressed in the seven county area about the projections. The Met
Council has reviewed these projections and said that they made some
errors in developing them. They have now issued new projections, but
they are not significantly different for Little Canada. The Planner reported
that the City has the opportunity to comment. The Planner reported that
the City Council has indicated that the projections for Little Canada
should not be significantly different from those for 2030.
Fischer noted that Little Canada is a fully developed City, and the only
way to meet these projections would be to have significant redevelopment
with multi- family housing units.
The Planner reported that Met Council's goal is to have these projections
as part of their housing count targets which the City will have to insert into
its next Comprehensive Plan update. Therefore, it is important for the
City to have these projections as reasonable as possible.
There being no further business, Fischer adjourned the meeting.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:25 p.m.
Respec fully submitted,
Kathy Glan
City Clerk
-8-
