MINUTES <br />PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION <br />APRIL 3, 2014 <br />FIRE BARNS- The Director reported that in discussing the Fire Barns -Skate Park <br />SKATE PARK Warming House project with the architect, the cost of the project <br />WARMING is higher than estimate. The architect has been obtaining bids and <br />HOUSE the cost of the concrete work is about $10,000 higher than the estimate. <br />The architect feels he may he able to negotiate that amount down <br />somewhat, bringing it in at about $7,500 over estimate. The Director <br />indicated that given the previous discussion relative to the Park Land <br />Acquisition Fund, staff is proposing that up to $10,000 be earmarked from <br />that fund for the Fire Barns -Skate Park Warming House project. The <br />Director noted that the City is finding that project costs are coming in <br />higher than initial estimates as evidenced by what is happening with the <br />Public Works -Parks Maintenance Facility. The Director noted that there <br />is a lot of construction work in the marketplace. <br />Fahey asked if the fact that the bids are coming in over estimate will cause <br />the project to be delayed. The Director hoped that would not be the case, <br />noting that the project was delayed once. Fahey stated that she did not <br />want to see the project delayed another year. <br />Maida recommended approval of up to $10,000 in Park Land Acquisition <br />Funds for the Fire Barns -Skate Park Warming House project. <br />Motion seconded by Miller. <br />Motion carried 6 — 0. <br />LEAH Sanders presented a listing of potential projects relative to the Leah <br />BROECHER Broecher Estate donation of $5,000 to Spooner Park. The potential <br />DONATION projects are as follows: <br />1. Bench (recycled materials) $1,200 <br />2. Landscaping (native materials as part <br />of natural landscape) $1,000 <br />3. Interpretive Sign (describe native flora <br />and fauna in the park and creek corridor) $1,500 <br />4. Reforestation (native trees to support the <br />wooded areas) $1,000 <br />Maida and Steinert indicated their support for the project as proposed. <br />Steinert suggested that the interpretive sign include a name plate for Leah <br />Broecher. Sullivan suggested that as part of the Commission's Spring <br />park tour, the Commission identify the areas where the project elements <br />could be located. <br />
