MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
APRIL 9, 2014
the structure from Centerville Road. Montour asked if the structure
complied with City Code. The Administrator replied that it did.
2. Reduce northeast corner of building by 1,025 square feet.
Estimated savings $45,000. This cost reduction option was not
recommended by the Review Committee.
3. Remove north mechanics bay. Estimated savings $40,000. The
cost reduction option was not recommended open by the Review
Committee.
5. Reduce vehicle storage at north wall by 2,900 square feet.
Estimated savings $140,000. The Review Committee rejected this item.
These three options were reviewed at the same time. Corbett noted that
these options would impact the functionality of the building. While the
changes could work, the end result was not desirable. Blesener noted that
the change would reduce the amount of storage area in the building
resulting in more off -site storage.
Oertel noted that the resulting cost savings comes from the elimination of
the cost of the roof and the floor as well as light fixtures and other
incidental items. Oertel noted that the mechanics bay is an important part
of maintaining the City's fleet. Combining the mechanics bay and wash
bay results in a loss of functionality. There was discussion about
maintenance and washing of vehicles in order to get as much longevity
from vehicles as possible. While trucks require frequent washing during
winter months, parks equipment requires frequent washing during other
times of the year.
4. Reduce office area by 440 square feet and mezzanine by 560
square feet. Estimated cost savings $35,000. The Review Committee
supported this change. Stromsodt explained the reductions in office space
which primarily occur through the reduction in size of the lunch /training
room. It was noted that restroom /locker room sizes are primarily the
result of Code requirements. Additional changes in this area include the
combination of the parks shop with one of the mechanics bay. The
Council was in support of this change.
6. Reduce height of vehicle storage exterior walls by 2.5 feet.
Estimated savings $20,000. The Review Committee left this item open.
Corbett stated that after addition discussion of this item, it was felt that
any reduction in wall height should be limited to 1 to 1 '/2 feet. That
would curt the estimated savings in half. There was discussion about wall
2
