MINUTES
PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION
MAY 1, 2014
ATHLETIC
FIELD
USAGE
GUIDELINES
LCRA GOLF
TOURNAMENT
MARKET
PLACE
MORNING
TALKS
PARK
WORK
WATER
WORKS
TRAIL
UPDATE
TROUTBROOK
TRAIL
funding the warming house shortfall as well as the sidewalk improvement
at the Veterans Memorial project. The Council indicated that their
preference may be to fund these amounts through other budget dollars
rather than use the Park Land Acquisition Fund. Again, a decision related
to the warming house project will likely occur at the May 14th Council
meeting.
The Director reported that the City Council adopted the Athletic Field
Usage Guidelines with a couple of minor modifications.
The Director reported that the Little Canada Recreation Association's
20th Annual Golf Tournament will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at
Gem Lake Hills Golf Course with a 4:00 p.m. shotgun start.
The Director reported that the next Market Place Morning Talk will be
held on Wednesday, May 14 '1i, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Market
Place Bingo Hall. The topic is "Dry Eyes ".
The Director reported that the floors at the Spooner Park upper shelter,
the Pioneer Park concession stand, bathrooms, and under the Pioneer Park
shelter are being coated with epoxy. There is also some additional
concrete area being added at the north and south sides of the Spooner Park
shelter.
The Director reported that the City recently awarded a bid for work which
includes trail work on the Water Works Trail to correct the damage that
was done to the trail when the St. Paul Water Department installed some
wells as well as completing the trail connection adjacent to the railroad
tracks. The Director noted that the structure crossing the railroad tracks
was put in last year.
Sanders indicated that he would put a notice on the Active Living website
about the completion of this trail system.
Sanders indicated that his firm has been hired by Ramsey County Parks
to do some detailed study of the Troutbrook Trail which extends from
McCarrons lake to the Vadnais Regional Park. Sanders indicated that he
would keep the Commission informed on this process.
3
