He also estimated that Vadnais Heights responds to about 1,000 calls
per year with 80% of them being medical -related.
Smiley indicated that the fire departments that respond to medical calls
typically begin with emergency medical responder service and move
forward with higher level services from there.
Smiley reviewed the City Goal Action Plan for "Develop Long -Terns
Strategic Plan for Fire Fighting Services". He pointed out that some of
the specific issues included in this plan will have big budget impacts.
Smiley also felt that the City and Fire Department Joint Committee
working on this issue have had good open communication. It was noted
that the next Committee meeting is Tuesday, May 14'x', at 7:30 p.m.
Smiley reported that the County is moving forward with an upgraded
CAD system. The Administrator noted the County's GIS improvements.
Smiley acknowledged the benefits of the County's GIS system and its
working relationship with the CAD system.
Smiley also noted the computer software that the Fire Department utilizes
to log in fire call information, noting that this system would be beneficial
to the City's Fire Marshal in documenting information that the Fire
Department would then have access to.
The City Administrator noted that on this evening's Council agenda is an
action item to approve cabling installation at the Fire Station. There was
discussion of the benefits of adding this fiber for Internet and telephony.
It was also noted that fiber will be extended from City Hall to the
Roseville Area Middle School extending the Metro Inet System. The Cost
of including the Fire Station in the project was estimated at an additional
$14,000 a few years ago. Morelan noted that one of the benefits would be
the ability to use the Fire Station as a secondary EOC. I -Ie also pointed out
the cost savings in eliminating the necessity of utilizing Comcast for
Internet service.
Morelan reported that a security system with electronic locks and a card
code system which records information on who enters the station has been
installed. He also reported that surveillance cameras both inside and
outside the station are being installed this week. These improvements
were paid for by the Fire Department.
4
14
