t1ftt1NG -ASSO(U1TC Mit NOM Memo TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council FROM: Lee Elfering, City Engineer DATE: May 22, 2014 RE: Little Canada Road Improvements Project Supplemental Agreement #1 As the Council is aware the City and Ramsey County developed a joint project for the improvement of Little Canada Road from the 35E Bridge to Edgerton Street that began last year. The original scoping of the plan included the installation of sidewalk on the south side of Little Canada Road along the entire project length; however the sidewalk from just west of the Church to the Interstate Bridge was eliminated because easements were necessary and they could not be obtained in time for inclusion of this sidewalk in the original plan. Since that time the City has been working on acquiring all the necessary easements along this section of the roadway and recently obtained the last easement area. The original completion of the Little Canada Road project was anticipated in 2013, however due primarily to delays of required power pole relocations all work was not completed and the Contractor is again working on the project this year. Both Ramsey County and City staff believe that it would be beneficial to have the Contractor complete the remainder of the sidewalk that was originally proposed while they are working to complete the remainder of the project. Attached to this memo is Supplemental Agreement #1 which would add the installation of the sidewalk from the Church property to the Interstate Bridge into the current Little Canada Road contract with FPI. The summary of cost sheet outlines the proposed cost sharing of the construction costs with Ramsey County, and we are awaiting their approval of these percentages. At this time we would recommend that the City Council authorize approval of Supplemental Agreement #1, in the amount of $76,076.80 and have the work completed under this existing contract. We will continue to work with the County on finalizing the cost split, but authorization now will allow the Contractor to schedule the work so it does not delay completion of the project longer than necessary.
