MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
May 28, 2014
estimate. The Administrator indicated that the next step would be to
complete construction drawings and authorize bids. He noted that the
construction manager would like to go to bid as each set of drawings are
completed since some of the construction materials will have a long lead
time before delivery. The Administrator reported that as bids are received
on each bid package, they will be presented to the Council for action. He
anticipated that there will be at least 10 bid packages.
The Administrator indicated that the goal would be to start construction of
the project towards the end of'July. He also noted that another open house
will be held on the PW -Parks Facility on Tuesday, June 10°i, from 5:00
p.m. to 6:30 p.m. to present the changes that have been made to the project
to the neighborhood.
Blesener pointed out the $3.9 million estimated for this project includes a
7% contingency as well as construction management and architectural
costs. The City Administrator stated that all project costs are included in
the $3.9 million estimate with the exception of land costs. The
Administrator also noted that the construction manager has recommended
bidding the project now rather than wait until early next year. That
recommendation is based on the fact that construction activity has
increased and the construction manager feels that waiting until next year
will result in increased costs. The construction manager felt that bidding
now may time the project so that kids are being taken at a time when firms
are beginning to complete current projects and are looking for the next
job.
McGraw asked when the existing buildings will be taken down. The
Administrator reported that the process for documenting hazardous
materials abatement is being completed. He anticipated that the buildings
may be demolished in the next couple of weeks.
Blesener introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 2014-5-94 — AUTHORIZING THE
ADVERTISEMENT FOR BIDS FOR THE PUBLIC WORKS -PARKS
FACILITY
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Boss.
Ayes (4).
Nays (0).
