UL1CRING ASSO(IAT S
Memo
TO: Mayor Blesener & Members of the City Council
FROM: Lee Eifering, City Engineer
DATE: June 20, 2014
RE: Pioneer Park Pavers
There are three areas of concern in the paver area around the Pavilion in Pioneer Park.
The first is that irrigation system work resulted in the removal of two areas of pavers,
approximately 900 square feet, and those areas are currently a dirt surface. The second
is that there are several other isolated areas within the pavers, totaling an additional 900
square feet, which have settled and are in need of correction. The third is that the
pavers appear to have settled somewhat uniformly at the match between the pavers and
the perimeter concrete around most of the pavilion creating a trip hazard.
The first two concerns require paver work and we have asked Contractors to provide
separate pricing for the complete replacement areas as well as removal and
replacement of the settlement areas. Two Contractors supplied pricing and their quotes
are summarized below.
MK IIOQT
Paver Settlement
Contractor Replacement Correction Total
Wolderstorfer Contracting $8,890.00 $ 8,200.00 $17,090.00
T&G Landscaping $8,680.00 $11,700.00 $20,380.00
In review of the trip hazard around the pavilion it appears there has been some
settlement of the concrete around the pavilion, but more settlement in the pavers
adjacent to the concrete. The options for correcting the trip hazard are to remove and
replace the concrete or remove and reset the pavers. Removal of the concrete would
require removal of at least a portion of the pavers all the way around the pavilion and
vibration from the removal and heavy equipment could cause more damage to other
pavers in the area. Therefore, it is our recommendation that 3 to 5 feet of pavers be
removed and reinstalled to provide a smooth transition from the pavers to the existing
poured concrete. The existing concrete would be reviewed as part of the work to ensure
proper drainage away from the building. Based on the low bid pricing we would estimate
an additional $9,000.00 - $10,000.00 for this work.
At this time we are requesting authorization to award the paver work to the Wolkerstorfer
Contracting. Our recommendation would be to include all the paver work including the
additional $9,000.00-$10,000.00 to eliminate the trip hazard around the pavilion for a
total estimated cost of $27,090.00.
