remainder of the sidewalk construction are estimated at approximately $40,000. The
retaining wall work could also require modifications (insulating or relaying) to the
watermain running from Noel Drive to the Water Tower and those costs are unknown at
this time.
Requested Council Input
We are recommending that a Contractor be utilized to add a new valve to the Water
Tower watermain prior to the Tower being put back into service and we would ask that
the City Council approve obtaining quotes and having this work completed by the lowest
responsible bidder.
If a sidewalk connection along Noel Drive between Little Canada Road and Gervais Mill
Park is a desired connection at this time or in the future, it would be beneficial to do any
necessary work to the watermain at this time because the line is currently out of service.
The watermain work could impact the walls and would necessitate either wall repair or
relocation of the walls to accommodate the new sidewalk. If the costs for this sidewalk
connection are prohibitive in the mind of the City Council then no additional work would
be needed other than the valve replacement. We would ask direction from the City
Council as to the desired course of action. Options include:
1. Only do the valve replacement.
2. Complete the valve replacement and modify the watermain as
necessary to accommodate the future wall and sidewalk work. The
watermain depth and associated existing wall impacts are unknown
and will only be known at the time of excavation. This option may
result in existing wall impacts with the following choices.
o Repair the damage to the wall to minimize current
costs.
o Relocate the walls to accommodate the future
sidewalk.
If you have any questions concerning this information, please call me at (763) 780-0450.
10062 Flanders Court NE — Blaine, MN 55449 — Ph: (763) 780-0450 Fax (763) 780-0452
Memo -062514 -CC (Valve Replacement Noel Sidewalk).doc
