�LfCRIN6 TISSO(IJATWS <br />nig UOAMU <br />Memo <br />TO: Mayor Biesener & Members of the City Council <br />FROM: Lee Elfering, City Engineer <br />DATE: July 8, 2014 <br />RE: Pioneer Park — Concrete Estimate <br />Quotes were presented at the June 25th Council meeting for the repairs of the damaged <br />areas in the pavers around the Pioneer Park building. Some of the areas were disturbed <br />due to irrigation system work and the pavers were entirely removed and have not been <br />replaced. Other areas have seen trench settlement along irrigation line runs or due to <br />soil movement. During the Council discussion it was questioned whether full <br />replacement of the pavers with concrete should be undertaken instead of spot correction <br />of the existing pavers. Council direction was to obtain an estimate for the replacement <br />of the paver area with concrete for a cost comparison. <br />There is approximately 15,000 square feet of pavers around the Pioneer Park building. <br />Based on contractor pricing we would estimate the full removal of the pavers and <br />replacement with concrete would be approximately $80,000 - $90,000 for 4" thick plain <br />white concrete. Adding color to the concrete would add another $40 - $160 per cubic <br />yard depending on the color chosen, which could increase the cost by up to $26,000. <br />In summary the paver repairs to address the settlement, disturbed areas, and trip hazard <br />around the building would be approximately $27,000. The cost for replacement of <br />pavers with concrete would be in the range of $80,000 for plain white concrete up to <br />$116,000 for colored concrete. In general poured concrete will show less settlement <br />than pavers due to its ability to bridge small settlement differences. However, the cost <br />for full replacement with concrete is significantly higher and future repairs will likely be <br />needed regardless of the surface material used. We would ask for Council direction on <br />the method of improvement around the Pioneer Park building.
