MINUTES <br />PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION <br />AUGUST 7, 2014 <br />Sullivan noted the need for a sidewalk along Centerville Road connecting <br />Spooner Park and Pioneer Park. The Director reported that Centerville <br />Road is a County road and the City is waiting until the County makes this <br />improvement to address the sidewalk. He noted that an issue is that the <br />roadway is currently not centered within the right-of-way. <br />ICE CREAM The Director reported that the Ice Cream Social went very well with <br />SOCIAL approximately 175-185 people in attendance. Maida suggested that the <br />City put together a Certificate of Appreciation thanking Culvers for their <br />donation of root beer and frozen custard as well as the staff to do the <br />serving. <br />WARMING The Director indicated that it is hoped that the warming house project will <br />HOUSE start early in September. He indicated that a zoning issue has arisen that <br />UPDATE will require the rezoning of the property from Single -Family Residential <br />to Public as well as a Variance to address handicapped accessibility <br />issues. It is hoped that the zoning issues will be resolved during August. <br />The Director reported that the Architect has indicated that once the project <br />starts it will take about 6 weeks to complete. <br />BROECHER 'I'he Director reported that the bench that will be installed in Spooner Park <br />DONATION as a part of the Leah Broecher Estate donation has been delivered. The <br />consensus was that this bench will be installed along the Gervais Creek <br />trail replacing a current bench that is in poor condition. <br />Maida pointed out the County program that has benches available to <br />communities at no cost. The Parks Consultant noted that these benches <br />are part of the County's Active Living Program and contain advertising <br />messages. Therefore, the Consultant and Director were not in support of <br />obtaining these benches. <br />REGISTRATION The Director reported that the City is currently taking late registrations <br />REPORT for Soccer Clinic, Soccer Pre -League, and Soccer League. The numbers <br />are not very good for the Soccer League, but are good for Soccer Pre - <br />League and Soccer Clinic. These programs will be combined with the <br />City of Maplewood's. Registrations are also being taken for After <br />School Basketball and Volleyball. <br />MARKET PLACE The Director reported that the next Market Place Morning Talk will be <br />MORNING held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 13th, at the Market Place Bingo <br />TALKS Hall on the topic "Cooking for One or (Two)". <br />3 <br />
