MINUTES <br />PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION <br />AUGUST 7, 2014 <br />LCRA The Director thanked the Little Canada Recreation Association (LCRA) <br />BASEBALL for taking the Little Canada baseball and softball players to a Twins <br />TRIP Game on August 6th. Over 70 players and chaperones attended. <br />SPONSORSHIP <br />SUSAN G. The Director reported that on August 23`d the Susan G. Komen 3 -Day <br />KOMEN Walk will have walkers passing through Little Canada. Rest stops will be <br />located at the lower Spooner Park Shelter and the Thunder Bay play area. <br />The organization will be responsible for all traffic control measures. <br />ADULT FALL The Director indicated that adult softball for this fall will occur on <br />SOFTBALL Wednesday evenings and there are four teams signed up so far. <br />VETERANS The Consultant reported that planning for the Veterans Memorial is <br />MEMORIAL proceeding well, and construction should begin soon. The Director noted <br />PARK that the Eagle Scout project is completed and turned out well. The <br />Consultant suggested that at the dedication ceremony the Eagle Scout be <br />acknowledged for his portion of the project. <br />FARMERS Sullivan noted that the Little Canada Farmers Market is in full swing. <br />MARKET She noted that she attended recently and enjoyed an on-site cooking <br />demonstration. "I'he Director reported that the Farmers Market received a <br />grant from the Farmers Market Association and provides funding for the <br />purchase of food from market vendors. Cooking demonstrations are then <br />put on by volunteers showing various ways to prepare the products sold at <br />the market. <br />NOEL DRIVE After reviewing the potential Noel Drive sidewalk location, the <br />SIDEWALK Commission unanimously felt that a sidewalk on Noel Drive from Little <br />Canada Road to Gervais Mill Park and/or to the Spooner Park trail <br />entrance should be at street level. Options that the Commission felt <br />should be considered in ensuring that the sidewalk is at street level include <br />relocation of the fire hydrant or recessing the lower retaining wall and <br />jogging the sidewalk around the hydrant. <br />ADJOURN <br />Heikke moved the meeting be adjourned. <br />Motion seconded by Maida. <br />Motion carried 6 — 0. <br />4 <br />
