MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
AUGUST 18, 2014
parking, and also pointed out that the City's ordinances are readily
available on line.
Ryan Kovaleski, representing the applicant, stated that the live music
venue use is being taken out of proportion and indicated that Voodoo Live
will primarily be a restaurant and a bar. Shawn Ingvar, Voodoo Live chef,
reported that the plan is to bring Louisiana food to Minnesota.
Montour indicated that he is hearing two business plans and that is of
concern to him. Montour indicated that he does not want to see empty
store fronts in Little Canada and would like to work with the applicant on
this matter. Montour stated that he also wanted to hear from the neighbors
relative to the Voodoo Live proposal. Montour stated that he did not want
to see the business presented as a restaurant and bar and the end result be a
live music venue with 100 to 200 music events per year.
Kovaleski indicated that the plan would be to have 75 live events per year,
similar to the number that The Myth does. The music focus would be rock
and country western. Kovaleski reported that EPG Security does the
security at The Myth and is able to clear 3,500 people within 15 minutes.
Kovaleski felt that any noise impact to the residents in the area of Voodoo
Live would be no more than 5 minutes.
Montour asked about events of under 16 and events for under 18.
Kovaleski reported that most concerts are open to any age and noted that
curfew ordinance would have to be complied with.
hrgvar indicated that Voodoo Live is a restaurant -sports bar. Montour
asked just what the business plan was. Kovaleski replied that it was a
restaurant -sports bar with some live music events. Keis asked whether
alcohol would be served during live music events. Kovaleski replied that
it would be.
McGraw asked if the proposal is for a restaurant -sports bar, why live
music events were necessary. He asked if the groups would be touring
groups or local groups. Kovaleski indicated that the business is restaurant -
sports bar driven. He also indicated that groups would be both touring and
local groups. He also noted that given the restaurant -bar use, the doors
would be open before live music events started, so there would not be
much rush from a traffic standpoint at the beginning of a live music event.
He indicated that they do not want the business to be a burden to the City,
but want to present another option where people can have dinner, dance,
and a great time.
16
