MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
AUGUST 18, 2014
MAYOR &
COUNCIL
FILINGS
SUSAN G.
KOMEN
THREE-DAY
WALK
EXEMPTION
FROM
ARCHITEC-
TURAL
GUIDELINES
& MASTER
SIGN PLAN -
223 LITTLE
CANDA ROAD-
KAPOSIA
Blesener congratulated John Keis as the only person who filed for the
upcoming Mayoral election indicating that unless something unforeseen
occurs, Keis will be the City's next Mayor. Blesener also noted that seven
people have filed for two Council Member seats. He congratulated all
seven candidates on filing and their interest in serving Little Canada.
Blesener indicated that the City has excellent candidates and encouraged
the public to get to know these candidates.
Montour indicated that the Susan G. Komen Three -Day Walk will be
going through Little Canada this Saturday, August 23rd. Those interested
in cheering on the participants should go to www.the3day.org to find
out the location of cheering stations.
Mayor Blesener opened the Public Review on the application for
Exemption from Architectural Guidelines to permit an alternative sign
display and Master Sign Plan for 223 Little Canada Road, Kaposia. It was
noted that the City Planner and the Planning Commission have
recommended approval.
The City Planner reported that the applicant has requested an Exemption
from the Architectural Guidelines which suggest that that sign
background colors should be dark with lighter lettering. The Planner
indicated that when these guidelines were developed there was the concern
that illuminated signs with white backgrounds would cast glare on
neighboring properties and in the rights-of-way. With regard to the sign
proposed, the Planner noted that it is not visible from the street, but rather
an internal parking lot. Also, the sign is not illuminated. Therefore, the
Planner indicated that there would be no negative impacts to granting the
exemption requested.
Jon Alexander, Kaposia, reported that they proposed the 2 foot by 3 foot
sign as designed so that people are able to identify and find their business.
There was no one from the general public present wishing to comment on
this matter.
Upon motion by McGraw, seconded by Boss, the public review was
closed.
Montour introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
2
