MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
OCTOBER 8, 2014
Keis asked if there were deferred assessments on this property. The
Administrator was not sure, but noted that if there are and the property is
subdivided, any deferred assessments would become payable.
Blesener introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTION NO. 2019-10-202 — APPROVING A FILL PERMIT
FOR 200 YARDS OF FILL FOR 2395 EDGERTON STREET BASED
ON THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE PUBLIC WORKS
SUPERINTENDENT
The foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Montour.
Ayes (5).
Nays (0). Resolution declared adopted.
VETERANS The City Administrator reported that as part of the Veterans Memorial
MEMORIAL project, the Committee decided that the obelisk with planters would be
removed and relocated to another part of the City. The Administrator
reported that in beginning the site work for the Veterans Memorial and in
considering the removal and relocation of the obelisk, a crane may be
necessary to lift and move the obelisk. Estimated cost would be between
$6,000 and $7,000 to remove the obelisk, move it to and install footings at
a new location. Estimated cost to demo the obelisk is between $500 and
$1,000. The Administrator indicated that there is no guarantee that the
obelisk can be removed without damaging it. He also indicated that some
suggested new location include Little Canada Road near McMenemy or at
Little Canada Road and County Road C.
The Council discussed leaving the obelisk in place, and the Administrator
indicated that the Parks Consultant felt it could stay. The Park Consultant
did some renderings of the Veterans Memorial with and without the
obelisk in place. Again, the consensus of the Committee was to remove
the obelisk.
The Administrator indicated that a decision will need to be made on this
issue within the next week as construction on the Veterans Memorial is
underway. The Council suggested that the Veterans Memorial Committee
take another look at this issue given they have a meeting this Monday
evening. The Administrator indicated that he would inform the Council of
the Committee's position on the issue as well as forward the Council
copies of the renderings showing the Veterans Memorial both with and
without the obelisk.
6
