MINUTES <br />PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION <br />NOVEMBER 6, 2014 <br />participants to a Timberwolves game and baseball and softball participants to <br />a Twin Game each year. <br />The Director reported that as part of LCRA's fundraising efforts they are <br />currently selling tickets for their winter raffle that will be held in conjunction <br />with their annual Ice Fishing Contest to be held January 31, 2015 at Lake <br />Gervais. <br />MARKET PLACE The Director reported that the next Market Place Morning Talk will be <br />MORNING held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 12111, at the Market Place Bingo <br />TALKS Hall. He pointed out that the November session is the annual Holiday Party. <br />AARP The Director reported that AARP's Driver's Safety Classes will be held <br />DRIVER'S over the next few days at the City Center. There are vacancies for the 8 -hour <br />SAFETY CLASS class to be held this Saturday. The Monday morning 4 -hour refresher course <br />is full, but Tuesday evening's 4 -hour refresher has openings. Anyone <br />interested in registering should contact the City. <br />GILBERTSON The Director noted that Gilbertson Field was named in memory of Alan <br />FIELD Gilbertson, a Little Canada resident that was killed in Vietnam. He noted <br />that it was recently discovered that Alan's first name was misspelled on the <br />plaque. A new plaque has been ordered and received and will be installed <br />very soon. <br />DON BOWMAN The Director reported that Don Bowman recently retired and given pension <br />requirements has had to separate from the City's service as Program <br />Supervisor for a period of time. The City will be contracting with Bowman <br />for this work now that the required time period has lapsed. The Director <br />noted that Bowman also contracts with the Cities of Maplewood and Oakdale <br />for recreation program work. <br />PIONEER PARK Sullivan commented on how well Pioneer Park looks since the overgrowth <br />has been cleared from the pond area. The Director noted that the City <br />utilized a crew from the MN Department of Corrections for this work. <br />ADJOURN <br />Miller moved the meeting be adjourned. <br />Motion seconded by Fahey. <br />Motion carried 7 — 0. <br />3 <br />
