MINUTES <br />PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION <br />NOVEMBER 6, 2014 <br />reported that there was the need to have adequate space at the entry door to <br />meet these requirements. <br />Vang asked if a dedication ceremony would be planned for the warming <br />house. The Director did not anticipate one, but indicated that there will be an <br />article in the City's newsletter announcing the warming house opening as <br />well as pictures of the new facility. <br />BROECHER The Director reported that the bench has been installed in Spooner Park <br />DONATION along the trail near the volleyball court that is part of the Leah Broecher <br />Estate donation. A plaque has been ordered and will be affixed to the bench <br />as soon as it is ready. Additionally, there will be trees added to the wooded <br />area at the west end of the park paid for from the donation. These trees were <br />not available this fall, and will be ordered and planted in the spring. Once <br />the improvements are complete, an article will be included in the City <br />newsletter acknowledging and thanking the Broecher Estate for the donation <br />to Spooner Park. <br />VETERANS The Director reported that the dedication ceremony for Veterans Memorial <br />MEMORIAL Park is scheduled for Tuesday, November 11111, Veterans Day, at 3:00 p.m. <br />PARK Various Commissioners expressed their appreciation for how well the <br />Memorial is coming along. Miller asked if the Boy Scout who installed the <br />picnic area would be invited to the dedication. The Director indicated that he <br />would be recognized in the dedication program. The Parks Consultant <br />pointed out that it is not too late to purchase memorial blocks for the <br />Memorial. <br />COMMISSION The Director noted that the terms of office for Patti Sullivan and Dave <br />VACANCIES Miller expire December 31, 2014. He encouraged them to apply for <br />reappointment and noted that the deadline is December 1, 2014. <br />REGISTRATION The Director reviewed the winter registration flyer for basketball and <br />REPORT gymnastics. Miller asked how many basketball teams were formed. The <br />Director replied that there were adequate registrations for two boys' teams. <br />There were some age groups where interest was expressed, but the numbers <br />were not adequate to form a Little Canada team. Arrangements were made <br />with the City of Maplewood to incorporate those children into their program. <br />LCRA <br />The Director reported that the Little Canada Recreation Association (LCRA) <br />will be taking the City's volleyball teams and their coaches to a MN Gophers <br />volleyball game next week.
