MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
NOVEMBER 12, 2014
stained condition of the existing tile and the fact that the existing tile does
not match the color scheme for the rest of the remodel project. It was the
consensus of the Council that an attempt should be made at cleaning the
tile to see if the stains can be removed. Based on the results of the
cleaning, a decision would be made on whether or not to proceed with a
complete remodel of the public bathrooms. The City Administrator
indicated that the employees' bathrooms are in good shape, although the
color scheme is dated. He suggested that the employee bathrooms could
remain as is.
Keis indicated that he attended the AARP Drivers Program at the City
Center recently and asked about improvements to the video systems in the
Council Chambers. The City Administrator reported that improvements
would be made as part of the Council Chambers upgrades.
The Council reviewed the Council Chambers backdrop including the size
of the logo that will be installed on the backdrop wall. There was
consensus that the logo size was adequate. Montour suggested the
addition of "City of Little Canada" to the front of the Council table. After
discussion of the appearance when Council meetings are broadcast,
agreement was to not proceed with this addition.
The Council then discussed the coiling shutter for the front counter and the
fact that the one proposed has 22% open space providing visibility into the
office area when the gate is closed. It was noted that City staff would
prefer that there is no visibility so that employees working after hours
cannot be seen by anyone coming to the City Center when it is closed.
The Council agreed that the gate should not have any open space and the
City Administrator was instructed to have James Steele Construction
obtain quotes for a solid coiling shutter.
The Council reviewed the media center design and was in support of it as
proposed.
The Council then discussed the Historical Society display area with the
City Administrator indicating that this area would be converted to a trophy
display case. He noted that the Historical Society has not updated there
display for many years and keeps the lights off in the display case so that
the items will not deteriorate. This results in the entry hall into the
Council Chambers being dark. The Council indicated that they would
prefer that the trophies no longer be display given there are outdated. The
Council indicated that this display area should be used for the display of
pictures of City parks, etc. as well as a ledge added for placement of
Council floor agendas.
2
