Hanson
MEMORANDUM
TO: Members of the Planning Commission
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: December 4, 2014
RE: Approval of the Sale/Purchase of Properties
As required by State Statute, the Planning Commission is asked to act on the following sale or
purchase of properties:
o Sale of 3046 LaBore Road — This property was acquired by the City as a
blighted property with the intentions of redevelopment of the site and to gain a
trail easement over the east 50 feet. While a larger redevelopment project did not
occur, the property has now been sold and a new single-family home will be
constructed on the site.
o Sale of Rice Street/Viking Drive vacant lot — As part of the relocation of Viking
Drive and replatting of this area, the City currently has one vacant lot for sale with
a medical office development pending.
o Purchase of 331 Little Canada Road — this property is located on the east side
of the Little Canada Road Fire Station. The Fire Department has had a long-
standing request for acquisition of this property when it becomes available for
additional parking. The property owner recently indicated an interest in selling,
and the City has finalized its purchase of the property.
o Purchase of 56 Little Canada Road — The City has acquired properties along
Round Lake over the years as they have become available. While this parcel and
the one to the east were not part of the original acquisition plan, it may make
sense to pursue the parcel given its condition and availability. This property was
on the market a year or two ago, but the City was not able to negotiate an
acceptable purchase price. The property was sold via contract for deed and the
buyer has recently defaulted on the contract. The realtor has contacted the City to
determine whether the City is still interested. The property would be acquired for
expansion of park development along Round Lake.
City staff requests that the Planning Commission ratify the sale/purchase of the above-described
properties.
13
