515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117-1600
(651) 766-4029 / FAX: (651) 766-4048
www.ci.little-canadainn.us
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Blesener and Members of the City Council
FROM: Kathy Glanzer, City Clerk
DATE: December 11, 2014
RE: Appointments to Planning Commission
MAYOR
Bill Blesener
COUNCIL
Rick Montour
John Keis
Michael McGraw
Shelly Boss
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
Tom Fischer, Scott Barraclough, and Jennifer Maleitzke's terms of office on the Planning
Commission expire on December 31, 2014. Therefore, the Commission has three vacancies
effective January 1, 2015 for three year terms.
As you know, Tom Fischer was recently elected to the City Council, Scott Barraclough could not
reapply for appointment due to term limits, and Jennifer Maleitzke decided not to apply for
reappointment.
The City has received applications from William Buesing, Alexander Davison, and Jeff Heikke
seeking appointment to the Planning Commission (see attached). The Planning Commission
Interview Committee consisting of Council Members John Keis and Mike McGraw as well as
Planning Commission Chair Tom Fischer and City Administrator Joel Hanson interviewed the
three applicants. The Committee's recommendation is that all three be appointed to the Planning
Commission. It was also the Committee's recommendation that if Jeff Heikke accepts the
appointment to the Planning Commission, he be required to vacate his position on the Parks &
Recreation Commission.
Please also note that the updated Planning Commission Ordinance calls for the Mayor to make a
recommendation for Planning Commission Chair. Given Mayor Blesener's absence, Mayor -
Elect Keis will then make that recommendation at Monday's meeting, with the Council making
the actual appointment. The Planning Commission will select their own Vice Chair at their first
meeting in January.
1
