MINUTES
PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION
JANUARY 8, 2015
Vang asked about the purchase of additional land from St. John's adjacent to
the warming house. The Director noted that a Variance was granted for the
warming house setback. The City is in discussions with St. John's about
acquiring the strip of land next to the warming house. If that land is
acquired, it will negate the Variance.
56 LITTLE The Director noted that the property at 56 Little Canada Road East had been
CANADA for sale early last year, and the realtor had approached the City asking if the
ROAD City was interested in acquiring this property. At that time, the asking price
was too high and the City was unable to negotiate an acceptable price. The
property was sold on contract for deed to a developer who was interested in
putting in multiple family housing. The developer's proposal was not
approved, and he has since defaulted on the contract for deed. The realtor
has again approached the City asking if there is interest in this land. The
Director noted that over the years the City has acquired several properties
along Round Lake for park purposes. The Director indicated that the City
Administrator will be proposing to the Council that an appraisal of the
property be done to determine its value. Once that appraisal is completed,
the Council will decide whether or not to proceed with the purchase.
EAGLE The Director reported that he received a thank you letter from Nicholas
SCOUT Nelson for the City's assistance with his Eagle Scout project which
PROJECT consisted of constructing a picnic table in Veterans Memorial Park. Nelson
IN VETERANS reported that he has since received his Eagle Scout designation.
MEMORIAL
PARK
RECREATION The Director reported that winter gymnastics and a basketball clinic are
PROGRAMS currently underway. He noted that this evening Little Canada is present at a
Roseville Area School District's Community Education meeting to present
information relative to recreation programming in Little Canada. He also
noted that adult open volleyball will starting on Friday nights from 6:30 p.m.
to 9 p.m. at Little Canada Elementary School.
LCRA ICE The Director indicated that the Little Canada Recreation Association's Ice
FISHING Fishing Contest will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at Gervais Beach.
CONTEST He noted that this is one of LCRA's fundraising events that help subsidize
youth programming. He noted that LCRA recently took Little Canada
volleyball players to a MN Gopher's volleyball game as well as basketball
players to a Timberwolves game. During the summer months, ballplayers
are taken to a Twins game.
3
