Hanson
St. Odilia's has requested that the City waive its $35 fee for the processing of its request for an
Exempt Gambling Permit for a fund-raiser dinner that they are holding at The Little Venetian in
February.
This $35 fee was established to cover the costs of processing gambling permit requests for
organizations that are not licensed to conduct charitable gambling within Little Canada.
Canadian Days Committee, Little Canada Recreation Association, and Little Canada Fire
Department do hold gambling licenses within the City, and these organizations pay the City 10%
of their net profits. Between the three organizations, the City collected 10% fees of $20,235 for
2012, $16,062 for 2013, and $22,693 through November of 2014.
The City receives requests routinely from St. John's Church for Exempt Gambling Permits, and
St. John's has been charged the $35 processing fee. Requests are also received periodically from
organizations located outside the City for Exempt Gambling Permits, and these organizations are
charged the $35 fee. The Council will recall the most recent request from Rebuilding Together
Minnesota for a fundraiser that was held at Joe's Sporting Goods. This organization was charged
the $35 fee.
Based on the information about, it is staff's recommendation that the $35 fee for St. Odilia's
Exempt Gambling Permit not be waived.
