MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JANUARY 23, 2007
A property owner indicated that a sidewalk on the residential side of
CanabLUy Drive may result in the need for retaining walls and cause the
loss of trees. The City Engineer agreed that there would be an impact to
trees.
One property owner indicated that the sidewalk along County Road B-2
was not utilized, and felt that a sidewalk was an added liability this time of
the year. Another property owner indicated that the County Road B-2
sidewalk was used, but felt Canabury Drive should have an on-street
shoulder similar to Viking Drive. He noted that there is no sidewalk along
Demont Avenue.
Blesener asked about the feasibility of the 32-foot wide street for Viking
Drive. The City Engineer indicated that it was a possibility and indicated
that the wider shoulder would have less impact than a 6-foot sidewalk.
The Engineer estimated the extra cost for the wider street at $8,000.
Blesener felt that was a minimal cost for extra safety.
One property owner was about moving the street toward the freeway
sowed wall. The City Engineer indicated that storm water treatment
standards would have to be met and rain water gardens are planned for this
area.
One property owner stated that he was against widening the street because
it would then be used as a raceway. It was pointed out that the street
width ranges from 27 feet to 38 feet currently. Therefore, the proposal for
a 32-foot wide street is generally narrower than current conditions.
The Engineer discussed the timing of the project and the methods that
would be used for maintaining access to the impacted properties.
Blesener asked for a show of hands in support of the project. Of the three
people present, two supported the project and one did not. Curbing was
discussed, with the consensus of support for the barrier curbing proposed
by the City Engineer.
There was no one else present wishing to comment on this matter.
Upon motion by Keis, seconded by Allan, the public hearing was closed.
Mr. Keis introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
RESOLUTIONNO. 2007-1-13 -ORDERING THE IMPROVEMENT
AND PREPARATION OF PLANS FOR IMPROVEMENT NO. 2007-
02,CANABURYDRIVE,WITH 32-FOOT ROAD SDRFACE
