These <br />opinions may be relevant to any Minnesota city struggling with the <br />application or implication of a gift ban to a particular situation. <br />C. Filings and disclosures <br />Chapter 10A applies to "metropolitan governmental units" and includes <br />some cities. Only local officials (including candidates for elected office) in <br />the seven county metropolitan area cities with a population over 50,000 <br />must submit the following to the Board. <br />1. Statements of economic interest <br />Local officials (including candidates for elected office) in cities within the <br />seven -county metropolitan area with a population over 50,000 must file a <br />statement of economic interest with the Board. <br />a. Time for filing <br />An individual must file within one of the following timeframes: <br />• Within 60 days of accepting employment. <br />• Within 14 days after filing an affidavit of candidacy or petition to <br />appear on the ballot for an elective office. <br />b. Notification <br />The county auditor must notify the Board upon receipt of an affidavit of <br />candidacy or a petition to appear on the ballot from someone required to <br />file a statement of economic interest. Likewise, an official who nominates <br />or employs an individual required to file a statement of economic interest <br />must notify the Board. The county auditor or nominating official must <br />provide: <br />• The individual's name. <br />• The date of the affidavit of candidacy, petition, or nomination. <br />c.
