MINUTES
PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION
MARCH 5, 2015
uncertainty with what time would be left during the skating season and the
need to then put together a crew to man the warming house. The bathroom
facilities will be opened when the skateboarding season begins.
Steinert asked about the schedule for the bathrooms. The Director indicated
that the timed locks will be programmed so that bathrooms are open during
the day light hours. I -Ie noted that the interior bathroom doors will remain
locked so there is no access into the remainder of the building.
Sanders suggested that a visit to the new warming house facility be schedule
as part of the Commission's spring park tour. Sanders asked if there would
be any security cameras on the building. The Director replied that none are
planned at this time. I -Ie noted previous discussions when former Ramsey
County Sheriff Bob Fletcher was contemplating the installation of security
cameras around the County. Under that program there would have been the
potential to have Little Canada security cameras monitored as part of that
system. The Director indicated that that system was never implemented by
the County.
Vang asked about motion lights. The Director indicated that the area is
currently well lit. Vang asked if there were windows in the warming house.
The Director replied that there were and described the windows. Maida
asked if coat hooks would be installed. The Director replied that they would
be and indicated that there are still some furnishings that will be added to the
building.
With regard to warming house hours, Fahey indicated that the City of
Minneapolis closed their warming houses last week. The Director reported
that the City of St. Paul closes warming houses on February 15th each year
regardless of weather.
Miller asked who will maintain the bathrooms. The Director reported that
during the summer seasonal employees would do the maintenance, and
during the winter warming house employees would do the maintenance.
Miller asked about scheduling an open house. The Director suggested that an
open house be scheduled at the beginning of the skating season, given only
the bathrooms would be utilized during the remainder of the year.
Miller asked if the facility would ever be rented out for such things as a
skateboard party. The Director reported that at times the old warming house
was used for some team events, and indicated that the same would likely hold
true for the new facility.
The Director reported that the Little Canada Recreation Association (LCRA)
just presented the City with a $20,000 donation toward the warming house
project.
2
