MINUTES <br />PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION <br />MARCH 5, 2015 <br />Vang asked about parent involvement in recreation activities. The Director <br />reported that the teams are coached by volunteer parents. Coaches must pass <br />a criminal background check and do receive some training in both coaching <br />and first aid. <br />LCRA The Director reported that LCRA's ice fishing contest was very successful. <br />ICE over 700 people participated and over 1,000 holes were sold. <br />FISHING <br />CONTEST <br />LCRA The Director reported that LCRA's annual casino bus trip will be held on <br />CASINO Saturday, March 21, 2015. Reservations should be made by Monday, March <br />TRIP 16th. <br />CENTERVILLE Keis reported that the improvement of Centerville Road will be moving <br />ROAD forward this year, and the City has reached an agreement with Ramsey <br />IMPROVEMENT County wherein the City will finance the project and the County will pay the <br />City back in the next couple of years. The City Engineer is currently drafting <br />plans and specs and the project will be put out for bid shortly. <br />There was discussion of the project with the Director noting that the sidewalk <br />along Centerville Road will be extended to Allen Avenue. The majority of <br />the project work will occur within the existing right-of-way. Given the <br />pavement currently sits on the eastern side of the right-of-way, the paved <br />surface will be moved over. <br />RAMSEY The Director reported that he and the City Administrator met today with <br />COUNTY Ramsey County's new Parks & Recreation Director, Jon Oyanagi. The <br />PARKS & Director reported that the City has always had a good working relationship <br />RECREATION with the County's Parks & Recreation Department and he anticipated that <br />that would continue under Oyanagi's leadership. <br />Sanders noted that some of the joint issues that the City and County has is in <br />respect to regional trails. It was noted that the Trout Brook Trail is one <br />example. It was also pointed out that the City works with the County on <br />events/issues related to Gervais Beach, with the Director pointing out that the <br />County works with the City and LCRA allowing the ice fishing contest on the <br />lake as one example. <br />5 <br />
