Card Access Control - $12,286
Five Outdoor Cameras and Licenses - $7,770
Indoor Camera and License - $954
Total Security System Cost- $21,010
The budget for security is $25,000 so there is room for the optimal camera setup. It is
also possible to take a different approach to the outdoor cameras to start and decide after
some time has passed if more are needed. The Council's input is requested on this topic.
Fiber Optic Line
The optimal method to connect everything from the new shop to City Hall and Roseville
IT is through fiber optic line. The fiber line currently runs from City Hall to the
Watershed District building and then to Little Canada Elementary School. The line could
be extended from the elementary school to the new shop. The total distance is about
2,200 feet. The current rate for fiber installation is $15-$20 per foot plus splicing and
building work. The worst case scenario is a cost of about $50,000. There was also
discussion of connecting the fire station to the fiber line as well, which would add
additional costs. The distance from the intersection of Eli Road and Centerville Road to
the fire station is about 1,100 feet. That would result in an additional $22,000 in costs.
In the future the desire is to run fiber over to Roseville Area Middle School as well.
The fiber line would be funded with the cable television budget, which is healthy enough
to cover the cost of connecting to the new shop and the fire station.
The alternative to running fiber is using Comcast Business services and building a VPN
over the internet. The cost for that is about $225 per month. According to Roseville IT
the speed would be ok for our needs but there may be issues with the security cameras
feeding back across the network to the storage servers.
Staff is requesting direction from the Council on this issue.
5
