MINUTES CITY COUNCIL MARCH 11, 2015 RAMSEY COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT LIQUOR LICENSE NOTIFICATIONS ADJOURN then the City is still dependent on the service provider, which it would not be if fiber were installed. Montour suggested that St. John's Church may be interested in connecting to fiber, and there also commented that having a fiber network in the City may be a draw to new businesses. Torkelson noted that fiber could be used as a means of providing wireless service to neighborhoods. He noted he believes there are State Statutes that prohibit cites from operating a utility of this nature unless there is a ballot referendum passed by voters. He also indicated that the FCC is considering potential changes that may nullify state laws of this nature. Keis noted that it would be extremely expensive for the City to install fiber on a City-wide basis. Torkelson agreed and indicated that there would have to be in-depth discussions and analysis before the City would move forward in this direction. The Superintendent reported that he would bring back additional information on the issue of fiber installation to the new Public Works facility for the Council's consideration. Ty Sheridan, Ramsey County Sheriff's Department, was present this evening to provide security at the Council meeting. It was noted that a workshop meeting is scheduled with the Sheriff's Department for Wednesday, March 25th, at 6:30 p.m. to discuss security issues. Joe Vitale, Little Venetian, asked that liquor license holders be notified when requests for new liquor licenses are to be considered by the City Council, so that these businesses are aware of what it going on in the community.
