MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
APRIL 27, 2015
Hedlund indicated that there were not enough on-site parking spots during
the 2014 Celebration.
Keis asked if anyone has talked to the new owners of the house across
from the park to see if they would be willing to rent parking spaces to
Canadian Days. Hedlund reported that they talked to people along Eli
Road to determine if anyone was interested in leasing parking space, and
there were not. It was noted that the new owners of the property where
parking occurred in the past have not been contacted as the Canadian Days
Committee thought these owners may want to experience the Celebration
for one year before they would ask about parking.
Hedlund again indicated that the area is short of parking, and the plan is to
publicize the shuttle more for 2015.
Goswitz reported that to alleviate the pinchpoint coming in from Eli Road,
the thought was to modify the horseshoe pits and put some sleeves in the
ground so that the irons could be removed during the Canadian Day
Celebration. Canadian Days is willing to pay for that modification.
Sanders suggested that the City could look at relocating the horseshoe pits.
That may result in 6 to 10 additional parking spaces. Hedlund indicated
that relocating the pits would clear up the circulation problems that they
have.
Maida asked if there were 244 parking spaces in the park and the need for
an additional 75 to make up for what was lost across the street. Don
Gagne indicated that there were about 200 cars just for the classic car
show. Goswitz reported that there is the potential for more parking deeper
into the park, but this area is not lit and he is hesitant to have people park
in an area that might not be safe.
Sanders asked about handicapped parking. Goswitz reported that there are
13 handicapped spaces designated along Eli Road.
Sanders asked if parking north of the school could be blocked off and
designated for Canadian Days. Goswitz indicated that that area is used by
the Little Canada Recreation Association (LCRA) for their kittenball
tournament. He also indicated that it would be very difficult to police this
area to ensure that parking was for the Canadian Days Committee needs.
Goswitz also reported that some people park vehicles along Eli Road as
early as Wednesday before Canadian Days to save parking spots. Goswitz
reported that the Canadian Days Committee is not asking to displace any
of the LCRA parking.
Sanders suggested that some of the people utilizing the Canadian Days
designated parking may be willing to park in Pioneer Park and utilize the
4
