MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
APRIL 27, 2015
shuttle. He also pointed out that a sidewalk will be added along
Centerville Road this summer connecting Pioneer Park and Spooner Park.
Fischer asked if parking passes were issued to those people on the
Canadian Day parking list. Hedlund reported that passes are issued.
Miller suggested the addition of more parking in the lower area of the park
if portable lights could be rented.
Sanders noted that several parking spaces are allocated for Canadian Days
sponsors and suggested that these people be asked to park in Pioneer Park.
McGraw was against that suggestion feeling that could jeopardize the
Committee's relationship with these sponsors and that they should be able
to park within the Canadian Days designated parking area.
Keis noted that when he has parked in the designated parking area no one
has ever asked to see his permit. Hedlund reported that the parking is not
always policed and to his knowledge they have never had any cars towed
that parked in this area unauthorized. Hedlund indicated that this year
they will try to monitor the area better to eliminate the unauthorized
parking. Hedlund and Goswitz also commented on the need for
committee members to park close and that they frequently are in and out
of the park when running errands during the event.
Sanders noted the success of the classic car event. Hedlund reported that
it has been successful and growing and that people really enjoy the car
show.
Hedlund stated for this year the goal was to document the parking layout
and address the horseshoe pits to help with the circulation in and out of the
designated parking area. He also indicated that a future task would be to
look at the parking area a little closer to determine if the removal of a tree
or two would be helpful. He suggested that there may be some poor
quality trees that could be removed. Sanders felt that reasonable and
suggested that the Commission would be willing to look at the removal of
a tree or two near the road. The Director indicated that he has observed
people using the trees adjacent to the park shelter for shade placing
playpens, etc. in this shade. The Director also suggested that after this
year's event perhaps the new owners of the house across the street could
be approached to see if they would be interested in leasing parking space
to Canadian Days. Gagne reported that they were approached and
indicated they were not interested. However, agreed that perhaps after this
year's event they may change their minds.
Keis noted that the reforestation would occur 20 feet in from the existing
tree line. He asked if that would open the possibility for taking out more
trees expanding the parking area that was established a couple of years
5
