MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
MARCH 26, 2007
REPAIRS outlining estimates for the needed repairs to the City Center as a result of
an accident that occurred in January. Three quotes were received for the
actual repair work ranging from $31,254.08 to $37,674.20.
The Adminisriator reported that quotes were also obtained for additional
alternate work, with only two of the three vendors submitting quotes. This
alternate work includes the following:
Replace/Lower Windows along South Wall;
Brick HVAC Screening Wall;
Brick Guardrail (south stairwell versus metal);
Replace Front Enriā¢y Door;
Window Blinds for South Side Office Windows;
Ceramic Tile for Front Lobby Area;
Remove Front Entry Sign;
Additional Insulation in Office Area.
The Administrator proposed that the work be done as two separate work
scopes: one for actual repairs and separate conhacts for additional
improvements to the City Center. This would prevent the City from
having to competitively bid the project, thus saving process costs. The
Administrator indicated that he has contacted the League of MN Cities
Insurance Trust to determine if that can be done.
Blesener stated that he would like to see the new, lower windows installed.
He was not sure that a brick wall around the HVAC equipment was the
best option. Blesener also thought a decorative railing, perhaps wrought
iron, should be installed around the stairwell. Blesener suggested that the
repair work be ordered now, including the windows, and the other
alternative work items be postponed at this time for further consideration.
The City Administrator suggested that the front entry door replacement
also be ordered at this time. Items such as screening wall, guardrail,
window blinds, ceramic tile, and additional insulation can be done later
after further study and would likely be done by different contractors
anyway. Removal of the front entry sign can be done by City staff.
Keis agreed with proceeding with the repair work and including the
lowered windows and front door replacement. Blesener agreed, but
suggested that the front door be included only if the total cost is under
$50,000. Other alternate work will require some further study. City staff
can also proceed with removal of the sign.
Mr. Blesener introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
IS
