MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JUNE 27, 2007
Blesener pointed out that the City cannot approve a development proposal
that would landlock another parcel. Blesener felt that nothing could move
forward until Mr. Hanson determines how he will participate. Blesener
also pointed out that it is his understanding that Hanson has a long narrow
strip of property that currently has some title problems.
Hanson indicated that at the time Ontario Lane was developed, the
developers squared off their property which left a long narrow strip of land
that was given to him. Hanson reported that he has been paying taxes on
the property since 1990, however, now it appears that there are some title
issues with this parcel that need to be resolved.
Blesener again indicated that it is premature to act on the development of
the Steinert property until the status of the Hanson property is known.
Benning pointed out that the Steinert property could be developed with
Lots 1 through 8 without including the Hanson property. The Hanson
property could be either added into the development or could be sold in
parcels to enlarge the abutting Ontario Lane lots. Therefore, Benning did
not feel there was an issue of landlocking the Hanson property.
Blesener pointed out that if all the Ontario Lane property owners
purchased sections of the Hanson property, it may be beneficial to shift the
cul-de-sac further east to enlarge the Steinert lots. Deeper lots would
result in more trees being saved.
Allan stated that she would like to see as many trees saved as possible.
Allan stated that she was puzzled as to how any trees could be saved under
the concept that is before the Council this evening. Benning explained
that there are two separate groves of pines on the property and explained
that the pines on the rear 20 feet of the lots would be saved. Blesener
suggested that leaving a 20 foot wide grove of trees on the back of these
lots would leave very little room for a backyard.
Linda Fund, 2943 Ontario Road, indicated that Mr. and Mrs. Hanson have
very generously allowed their neighbors to enjoy the flowers and wildlife
on their property over the years. Funk stated that she would be interested
in purchasing land from the Hanson's and expanding her backyard.
Blesener noted that the Hanson's will have to have a commitment from
each of the abutting Ontario Lane property owners to buy land in order to
make this option feasible.
Montour suggested that the platting of the Steinert property as proposed
would not landlock the Hanson property. Blesener noted that the decision
Mr•. Hanson makes will impact the Steinert property. Either Hanson will
12
