MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
January 4, 2007
_.ATEBOARD The Director stated that the St. Paul Water Department is not prepared at this time to give the
PARK city permission to construct a skateboard park on their property located at the Old Fire Hall, 440
Little Canada Road East. They are concerned that the heavy equipment needed to construct the
cement base could dainage two of their existing water lines in the area. The Water Department
is obtaining borings to determine the depth of the two lines. Once this information is obtained,
they can decide if the project could move forward. This item was tabled until the information
from the Water Department is received in the spring.
PARK The Director presented the Commission with proposed fees for 2007 park shelter rental
SHELTER permits. He indicated that he is recommending a 3% increase and this amount is in line
FEES with what other cities are charging. Mans felt the increase was reasonable.
Davis recommezzded approving the 2007 park shelter fees as presented Gy the Director.
Motion secozzded by Falzey.
Motiozz carried 6 - 0.
OTHER Reports on the following were also made:
BUSINESS
• The correctional personnel have been working on removal of Buckthorn throughout the city.
The Buckthorn is being hauled to a facility that burns it for energy. Stumps are then sprayed
with Round-up to kill the plant. Correctional staff have also recently built a retaining wall at
the Old Fire Hall that turned out nice. The city will be renewing their contract for 2007.
• The basketball league program is underway.
• Basketball clinic, skating lessons, hockey skills, and winter gymnastics begins this week.
• Davis stated that the City of Roseville is asking for members on an advisory board to discuss
the reconstruction of Rice Street from County Road B north to County Road J. She felt
since this project impacts us, Little Canada should be a part of this board. The Director
stated that Little Canada may already be represented on this board by a member of our
Planning Commission or staff, but he was unsure.
• Maplewood City Council will be voting on the Walter Street trail connection this month.
Once approved, we can proceed with bids on the project.
ADJOURN Neis recomzzzeaded that tlae meeting be adjourzzed.
Motiozz secozzded by Davis.
Motion carried 6 - 0.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:25 p.m.
