MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
November 1, 2007
~~ehicle Access on Gervais Lakc-
Thc Director received notice from Ramsey County that they will be closing the vehicle access
on the Ramsey County Beach on Gervais Lake. If ~a~i(1 be relocated to the opening off ]Colilman
Lane on the northeast side of Gervais Lakc. Ramsey County made this decision because of the
wear and tear on the land and shoreline- it requires annual turf restoration. This access closing
will probably have a negative effect on many ice fishermen. They will still be able to park at
Gervais I3each, but wilt not be able to have vehicle access to the lake via the beach. It is
uncertain if the now vehicle access ~~~ill be open this winter.
Joint Powers Agreement -
The Director reported that Sanders, Wacker, Bergly, Inc. is working on a draft for finalizing the
connection and allocation costs with the City of Maplewood for the trail connection under the
powerline. The Director is in hopes of having the project let out for bids soon so the winning
contractor could start to work on the wood structures this winter.
Graffiti issues -
Fahey commented on the white building in the Gervais Mill Park that was covered with graffiti
on all four sides. IY was suggested to paint the building green or brown in hopes of eliminating
further vandalism. Steinwell reported that the bus bench on Little Canada Road by Jackson
Street also has graffiti with yellow paint that should be removed. The bench and trash
receptacle are left out year round. The Director reported that a large amount of graffiti was also
found in Rondeau Park from this past weekend. 1"ahey suggesting having someone watch the
area to catch the people doing all the graffiti.
ADJOURN Davis reco~nrnended that the ~ueeting be adjourned.
Motion seconded by Steinwall.
Motion curried 6 - 0.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:12 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Dotty Norgard
