7/8/2015 City of Golden Valley, MN: Property Maintenance Code <br />YOU ARE HERE: Home > Your Home & Yard > Property Maintenance > Property Maintenance Code <br />Property Maintenance Code <br />Golden Valley's Property Maintenance Code City Code Chapter 4, Section 4.60 <br />serves to: <br />establish and uphold standards for public health, safety, welfare, and basic <br />livability <br />encourage proper home maintenance <br />preserve and enhance community value <br />promote communication between residents and the City <br />The code was developed based on citizen input gathered through public surveys, meetings, and online feedback. <br />It applies to multiple -dwelling properties and one- and two-family homes and stresses a common-sense approach <br />to maintenance. It also helps actively maintain the vitality and integrity of the City's housing stock and achieve a <br />number of community goals. <br />Common Maintenance <br />Problems Checklist » <br />Goal: Stable Residential Neighborhoods <br />Goal: Objective Minimum Exterior Standards <br />Goal: Provide City Staff a Tool to Manage Property Maintenance Complaints <br />Outdoor Property Maintenance Inspections <br />Under the code, inspectors address outdoor maintenance problems they spot while evaluating Golden Valley <br />neighborhoods. <br />The goal is to encourage people to find and fix maintenance concerns well before they lead to neighbor <br />complaints. City inspectors are willing to come to your home to answer any questions you may have about your <br />property. <br />Those who receive violations have a designated time to fix the problem and will pay fines if they don't comply. <br />Enforcement <br />When a City inspector determines a property is out of compliance according to the City ordinance, he or she will <br />issue a correction order to the responsible party of that property.
