7/8/2015 City of Golden Valley, MN: Property Maintenance Code Checklist <br />YOU ARE HERE: Home > Your Home & Yard > Property Maintenance > Property Maintenance Code > Checklist <br />Property Maintenance Code Checklist <br />The Property Maintenance Code for one- and two-family homes requires that the exteriors of all buildings and <br />structures be kept in good repair. The Code also requires properties to remain clean and sanitary. <br />The following is a checklist of basic maintenance problems every homeowner can identify and fix. Some <br />maintenance projects may require permits or professional help, but most smaller repairs may be done by the <br />homeowner. Call 763-593-8074 or 763-593-8092 if you have any questions. Remember, if it looks like <br />it needs repair, it probably does. <br />Note: The following lists include the major items covered in an inspection but may not be totally inclusive of all <br />items. <br />General Appearance <br />Paint fading, chalking, or peeling <br />Neglected landscaping, lawn not mowed, or overgrown weeds <br />Accumulation of trash, construction debris, or yard waste <br />Driveway in poor condition, ruts, holes <br />Roofing curling, missing, or overdue for replacement (the average life of a shingled roof is 20-30 years) <br />Excessive clutter or storage of items in front yards and drives <br />Garbage/Recycling Containers <br />Garbage/recycling containers must be stored behind the front plane of the main living structure and within <br />three feet of the structure.. <br />Containers should never be overflowing with garbage or recycling materials. <br />Windows and Doors <br />Windows not operational, no screens <br />Garage doors not securable <br />Entry doors rotten or dilapidated <br />Doors or windows not securable against intrusions <br />Windows and doors with broken glass or missing glazing <br />Doors that are missing weather stripping, thus allowing rodent harborages <br />Accessory and Yard Buildings <br />Doors not operational or securable <br />Foundation unstable (settling or rotten) <br />Windows and doors with broken glass or missing glazing <br />Proper distance from property lines and other structures <br />http://www.goldenvalleymn.gov/homeyard/maintenance/checklist.php 1/4 <br />
