Memo TO: Park Board FROM: Lee Elfering, City Engineer DATE: July 7, 2005 RE: Waterworks Trail Alignment Options ~L~IN~ ~ ~ASSO(I.OT~S TR~U NORTU As requested, we have reviewed options to provide trail access to the residents within the Yorkton Ridge/Burke Lane area to the Waterworks Trail and Rondeau Park. Three options were explored. An exhibit has been attached that shows the three alignments discussed in further detail below. In addition to the location maps, construction cost estimates for the three options have also been attached. Option 1 -Country Drive Trail This option consists of the construction of an off street trail along South Owasso Blvd. and Country Drive. This option has the lowest construction cost of those reviewed. Narrow right-of-ways and treed boulevards make the possibility of constructing trails along Condit Street or Nadeau Road difficult and would result in large impacts to adjacent properties. Therefore, residents wishing to utilize the trail would need to walk on-street on Condit Street or Nadeau Road to access the new trail. Option 2 -Nadeau Pedestrian Bridge This option would consist of the construction of a bituminous trail within the existing 30- foot Nadeau right-of-way west of Concetta Way/Burke Lane to Gervais Creek. At that point a bridge would be installed across the creek to connect to the existing trail on the waterworks property. The vertical relief across the 30-foot easement would require the construction of a retaining wall along the north or south side of the easement for the trail installation. From the top bank of the creek there is approximately 23.5 feet of fall down to the waterworks trail. The maximum grade on a trail allowed by ADA standards is 5%. Using that grade the pedestrian bridge would need to be approximately 450 long, of which approximately 350 feet would be on the waterworks property. Option 3 -Yorkton Pedestrian Bridge To eliminate the need for the long bridge length due to the significant elevation difference between the east side of Gervais Creek and the waterworks property a pedestrian bridge option was reviewed off of the Yorkton Ridge cul-de-sac.
