MINUTES <br />Parks & Recreation Commission <br />July 7, 2005 <br />_ ~[; CREAM Steinert stated that preparations for the ice cream social are underway. Not much has changed <br />SOCIAL since last month's update on this issue. The trail dedication will occur at a regular program <br />during the Canadian Days festival. Mans recommended thaC LiCCIe Canada trail maps be <br />distributed at Canadian Days since their theme is "Blazing New Trails." Sanders said that he <br />would update the map and provide copies to the city. The ice cream social will be held at <br />Spooner Park on Thursday, August 4 at 6:30 p.m. Commissioners should arrive a half hour <br />early to help set up. The Director will send an e-mail reminder just prior to this event. <br />AUGUST The Director stated that next month's meeting is scheduled on the same evening as the ice <br />MEETING cream social. He indicated that if Chere were items on the agenda, the discussion could occur <br />immediately after the ice cream social right at the park, approximately at 8 p.m. No park tow' <br />will be held in August. The park tours will resume in September. <br />PARK Sanders stated that at the workshop with the Council scheduled on Wednesday, July 13 <br />MASTER at 6:00 p.m., he felC the Commission could begin by reviewing the work program. He stated the <br />PLAN meeting could be introductory in nature. They could review the scope of work and hold open <br />discussions on the issues such as trails and the skateboard park. <br />Broten stated that the addition of an off-street path on Little Canada Road east of I35E should be <br />discussed. He is concerned that this is a very hazardous area for pedestrians. Boss stated that <br />she recalled that this item was added to their list of priority rankings already. Mans presented <br />Commissioners with a copy of the minutes from August 2004 where the priority rankings were <br />discussed. The off-street path on Little Canada Road was included in the listing. <br />DIRECTOR'S The Director reported on the following items: <br />REPORT <br />At the goalsetting session held earlier Chis year, Che need to review on-street trails and <br />recommend areas for off-street paths was addressed. The Commission should discuss this <br />item in the near future. It was felt this could occur at the July 13°i Workshop. <br />The Roseville Area School District has held discussions about use of the school district <br />property just east of the Capitol View Learning Center. The School District no longer has a <br />need for the property and is considering selling it. The Community Education Board has <br />recommended that the city be contacted prior to any sale to see if the city would have a need <br />for Che property. The School District has not formally approached us yet. The Commission <br />felt this would be another item that could be addressed in the Park Master Plan. <br />The correctional work crew has been very busy performing landscape clean-up work at the <br />fire station and at city hall. They have also been painting the parks garage, replacing Che <br />woodchip paths at Gervais Mill Park, and painting fire hydrants. This program has seen <br />positive results and is beneficial to Che city. <br />Registration for fall youth programs is about to begin. These programs include volleyball, <br />soccer, and basketball clinic. <br />The pedestrian crossing signs were installed at the Edgerton, LaBore, and Payne crossings. <br />The crosswalks in these areas will be painted soon. Broten noticed that there were no <br />pedestrian stop signs installed at the LaBore crossing yet. The Director stated that he will <br />get them ordered and installed. <br />Page 3 of 4 <br />
