He explained that many things have been taken out of the State
Fire Code and put into appendices, and recommends that several of those should
be adopted. He noted that many of the changes are simply malting the code
chapter references line up with the new state code numbering, and removing
language that is no longer relevant.
The Fire Marshal explained the appendices, and stated that in Appendix D, Fire
Apparatus Access Roads, there are width requirements for streets, cul-de-sacs
and turnarounds in order for fire vehicles to be able to fit down the street and
turn around. The City Administrator stated that many of the existing city streets
will not meet these width requirements, and he does not think these
requirements are realistic for the City to adopt. He suggested rather than
adopting the fire access road width standards, instead we could work with the
City Engineer on design options for private streets and see if any modifications
are warranted for City streets.
