The process bringing 71 <br />forward this agreement has involved several meetings and eventually mediation. He reviewed the 72 <br />terms included in the proposed agreement including its two-year term. 73 <br /> 74 <br />Mayor Reinert recalled that the city did move away from multi-year contracts with the city’s union 75 <br />employees mainly due to the recession and uncertainty that surrounded that period. Now, with signs 76 <br />of recovery, he is comfortable again with two-year contracts. He’s confident the city will be moving 77 <br />ahead with all the labor contracts soon. 78 <br /> 79 <br />Council Member Kusterman recognized the efforts of Administrator Karlson in achieving a fair 80 <br />agreement. 81 <br /> 82 <br />Council Member Rafferty moved to approve the labor agreement as presented. Council Member 83 <br />Maher seconded the motion. Motion carried on a voice vote. 84 <br /> 85 <br />3B) Consider Appointment of Alex McKenzie, Community Development Intern – 86 <br />Administrator Karlson requested council authorization to hire Mr. McKenzie as an intern in the 87 <br />Community Development Division. He noted the success of the internship program, with several 88 <br />previous individuals moving from interns to planning department positions in other cities. 89 <br /> 90
