<br />WS – Item #6 <br />WORK SESSION STAFF REPORT <br />Work Session Item No. 6 <br /> <br /> <br />Date: June 6, 2016 <br /> <br />To: City Council <br /> <br />From: Diane Hankee and Katy Thompson, WSB Engineering <br /> <br />Re: FEMA Floodplain Map Revisions <br /> <br /> <br />Background <br /> <br />FEMA updated their flood insurance rate maps within Anoka County, effective <br />December 16, 2015. The maps are used to determine flooding risks and flood insurance <br />premiums for property owners. A number of resident have been required by their <br />mortgage companies to obtain flood insurance. Last month Council directed staff to <br />provide information to residents laying out the process and their options regarding a <br />Letter of Map Change, if applicable. <br /> <br />A FEMA floodplain map update website is being prepared along with a newsletter article. <br />The draft is enclosed. <br /> <br />When the maps first came out staff worked with property owner to help them through the <br />process and provide data on their property. In the past two months call received <br />regarding FEMA floodplain issues have been minimal. <br /> <br />Requested Council Direction <br /> <br />None required.
