CITY COUNCIL
AGENDA ITEM 4A

STAFF ORIGINATOR: John Swenson, Public Safety Director

MEETING DATE: June 13, 2016

TOPIC: Acceptance of CenterPoint Energy Community Partnership Grant

VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5

INTRODUCTION

CenterPoint Energy offers Community Partnership Grants to cities served by the company in
Minnesota. The company awards individual grants of up to $3,000 to help cities purchase
emergency response equipment.

BACKGROUND

Staff researched and applied for the CenterPoint Energy Grant to assist the Lino Lakes Public
Safety Department in the purchase of portable 800 MHz radios which are being replaced because
our current radios will no longer be supported by the manufacturer by the end of 2017 and
ensures inter-operability with other emergency responders. The cost of these portable radios is
approximately $20,314.50. On May 13, 2016 CenterPoint Energy informed us that our grant in
the amount of $2,500 had been awarded to the City of Lino Lakes.

RECOMMENDATION

Staff recommends that Council accepts the donation of $2,500 toward the purchase of portable
800 MHz radios from the CenterPoint Energy Community Partnership.
