LINO LAKES PUBLIC SAFETY DEPARTMENT. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Lino Lakes Public <br />Safety Department <br />Memo <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />DATE: October 10, 2016 <br /> <br />TO: Members of the City Council <br /> <br />FROM: John Swenson, Public Safety Director <br /> <br />RE: Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force Officer <br /> <br />A Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Task Force Officer (TFO) is a state law <br />enforcement officer assigned to the DEA and deputized as a federal law enforcement <br />officer. A TFO is responsible for the investigation of controlled substance and money <br />laundering crimes. The mission of the DEA is to investigate and prepare for the <br />prosecution of major violators of controlled substance laws operating at interstate and <br />international levels. <br /> <br />The Lino Lakes Police Officer is currently assigned to Enforcement Group 71, as a TFO at <br />the DEA’s Minneapolis/St. Paul District Office. The group consists of 13 members: one <br />DEA Group Supervisor, five DEA Special Agents, one BCA Agent, five Task Force Officers <br />and an intelligence investigator. <br /> <br />The DEA Task Force Officer (TFO) position provides a resource and investigative tool for <br />officers at the Lino Lakes Police Division, and is the only representative from Anoka <br />County. The Lino Lakes TFO has access to DEA databases and technology that are able to <br />be used for investigations in Lino Lakes. Additionally, the TFO position acts as a liaison <br />to other agencies and resources, including: <br /> <br /> - United States Attorney’s Office <br /> - Anoka/Hennepin Drug Task Force <br /> - State/Local Drug Task Forces <br /> - MN Police Departments/Sheriff’s Offices <br /> - MN Bureau of Criminal Apprehension
