AGENDA ITEM NO. 14A <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR Fire Chief, Milo Bennett <br />DATE February 9, 1996 <br />TOPIC Consideration of Volunteers of America <br />Week Proclamation <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Each year the Volunteers of America request that this City proclaim a week <br />in March as Volunteers Week. This year, they are celebrating their 100th <br />year of service to the people in Minnesota and the nation. They have <br />provided material detailing all the work volunteers perform for the <br />Volunteers of America organization. <br />Volunteers perform services for the mentally disabled, mentally ill, <br />chemically dependent and elderly adults, congregate dining for seniors at 45 <br />sites in Anoka County and Hennepin County, programs for children and <br />youth including foster treatment homes and correctional group homes, <br />work -release and pre-release programs and 4 long-term health care facilities <br />and many other such programs. <br />OPTIONS <br />1. Move to approve the proclamation and direct staff to send a copy of <br />the proclamation to the Volunteers of America so that it can be <br />included m a booklet commemorating their 100th birthday. <br />Return matter to staff for further information. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Option No. 1 <br />
