PROCLAMATION <br />VOLUNTEERS OF AMERICA WEEK <br />March 3 -10,1996 <br />WHEREAS, the Volunteers of America, a Christian human service organization, is <br />celebrating its 100th year of service to the people of Minnesota and the <br />nation; it is therefore certainly appropriate for us, the City of Lino Lakes, <br />to join in the observance of this milestone with the commemoration of <br />March 3 - 10, 1996 as Volunteers of American Week; and, <br />WHEREAS, the Volunteers of America is making a valuable contribution by providing <br />these services to adults and the elderly: 6 homes for mentally disabled, <br />mentally ill, chemically dependent and/or elderly adults; congregate dining <br />for seniors in 45 sites in Anoka and Hennepin Counties; transitional <br />housing for women and their families in Aiktin, Isanti, Kanabec, Mille <br />Lacs, and Pine counties; home delivered meals for persons 60 years of age <br />and over; semi-independent living services and supported living services; <br />3 housing complexes for families, the handicapped, and the elderly; 3 <br />assisted living communities; and 4 long-term health care facilities; and, <br />WHEREAS, the Volunteers of America provides these services for children and youth; <br />a children's daycare, programs serving autistic, autistic -like, and/or <br />developmentally disabled youth; children's shelters; in-home services; 52 <br />foster treatment homes and correction group homes; a residential treatment <br />center for emotionally handicapped boys; a specialized behavioral <br />program for boys with severe problems' short-term after care for youth <br />with special needs; and, <br />WHEREAS, the Volunteers of America provides 2 correctional services; a pre-release <br />and work -release correctional program serving men in a jail, workhouse <br />and work -release correctional program serving women; and, <br />WHEREAS, the Volunteers of America, through its dedicated staff and volunteers and <br />the many people who help support their work through financial <br />contributions make a significant impact on the lives of people in the City <br />of Lino Lakes; and, <br />WHEREAS, the Volunteers of America is commemorating its founding in 1896 and <br />urges others to join them in bridging the gap between human needs and the <br />resources of the public and private sector; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I, John L. Landers, Mayor of the City <br />of Lino Lakes, do hereby proclaim the week of March 3 - 10, 1996, as: <br />
