AGENDA ITEM NO. 14B <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR <br />DATE <br />TOPIC <br />Marilyn Ande <br />May 7, 1996 <br />Consideration of a Rainesl <br />No. 3 into Two Precincts <br />n, Clerk -T <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Residential growth in the City has created a need to divide voter Precinct No. 3. <br />Currently Precinct No. 1 has 1,295 registered voters, Precinct No. 2 has 2,339 registered <br />voters and Precinct No. 3 has 3,185 registered voters. Anoka County, Division of <br />Elections reconimends that there be no more than 1500 registered voters in any one <br />precinct. Although Precinct No. 2 has more than the recommended registered vters, I <br />am not recommending that it to divided at this time. <br />I have made arrangements with Living Waters Lutheran Church for use of their social <br />hall to conduct both the primary and general elections this year. They have indicated that <br />their social hall will be available for future elections. This means that there will be two <br />(2) prec very clt together. However, there are no other public buildings in this <br />_ion o ti c City I am recommending' kat the City Council approve the Liv <br />v I propose to divide Precinct No. 3. <br />a recognizable land mark such as a street, railroad <br />. m dividing Precinct No. 3, I used Birch Street as a <br />Street (County Road J) as a boundary to the south, Hodgson <br />Road (Highway 49) as a boundary to the west and 12th AvenuelHolly Drive as the <br />boundary to the east. All areas within these boundaries would be Precinct No. 3 and all <br />areas outside of theme boundaries would be Precinct No. 4. Precinct No. 3 would have <br />1720 registered voters and Precinct No. 4 would have 1444 registered v <br />After the 2000 federal census, the state will be redistr cted. This may mean. <br />boundaries of current precincts must be rearranged to coincide with the district <br />boundaries. I suggest, at that time, all of the precincts be evaluated and boundaries <br />
