Consideration of a Request to Divide Precinct No. 3 into Two Precincts
Page -2-
changed if necessary. Also at that time, the population east of I35E will have grown so
that a precinct for that side of the City will be needed.
Precinct boundaries will continue to be rearranged until the City has obtained near
maximum growth.
Approval of the division of Precinct No. 3 is required before June 1, 1996. If the division
is approved, I will notify Anoka County, Division of Elections and the Office of the
Secretary of State, Division of Voter Registration and Elections. Anoka County, Division
of Elections will notify all registered voters who will be voting in the new precinct where
there new polling place is located. I will be including this information in the Summer
Newsletter and information will be placed on cable T V. Since this is a presidential
election year where voter turnout is usually larger, notification of affected residents is an
important issue. Therefore, I am considering notifying all residents in the newly created
Precinct No. 4, whether registered or not, that they will be voting at the Living Water
Lutheran Church. I welcome any suggestions from the City Council regarding the
division of Precinct No. 3 and the notification of residents regarding the new polling
location.
OPTIONS
1. Adopt a motion approving the division of Precinct No. 3.
2. Advise Staff that the precinct boundaries will remain as they are.
3. Return to staff for further information.
RECOMMENDATION
Option 1
