Robert Johnson Anoka County Attorney Anoka County Courthouse Anoka, MN 55303 421-4760 Description of NSCAH North Suburban Consumer Advocates for the Handicapped (NSCAH' Inc.) is primarily a self advocacy group. NSCAH provides a vehicle for persons with disabilities, relatives and concerned persons to have a voice in the decision making process. Issues of concern are transportation, housing, education, employment, attitudinal, communication, and architectural social and economic barriers. NSCAH advocates for "Rights" of persons with disabilities that lead to control over their lives, independence and self sufficiency. It advocates for proper execution of 504 regulations and supports the passage of the American Disabilities Act. It is our belief that disabled persons have "Rights" but also are equally responsible as nondisabled persons in carrying out responsibilities of good oitizenobip. NSCAH was organized as a non-profit corporation in 1978. It is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. NSCAH is Coordinated by a part time Executive Director and receives clerical assistance through an arrangement with Anoka County. NSCAH has contracted with the Anoka County Community Action Program (ACCAP) to provide fiscal accountability, accurate reporting and audit. NSCAH. Inc. has obtained a postal permit number and is registered with the MN State Attorney Generals Charities Department. It has received State Tax exmpt status in addition to having a Federal 501 (c) 3 status. The ARC Anoka County and the McKnight Health Consortium offer effective services for persons with mental retardation and mental health disabilities. NSCAH emphasizes service to persons with physical disabilities.. Since its inception NSCAH has worked as an umbrella organization for people with all types of disabilities in an effort to build a stronger community for dis- abled people. The funding of this grant request will assist NSCAH to strengthen that bond and provide a broad based resource that will be available and used by all disabled people and service providers.
