COUNCIL MINUTES January 12, 2015 <br />DRAFT <br /> 91 <br />Council Member Stoesz noted that he represents the City on the NMTC so he has been following 92 <br />these actions as they have developed and come forward and can recommend council approval . He 93 <br />noted the additional connectivity that the city will receive. Mr. Bradley confirmed that cities will 94 <br />receive additional cable drops and boxes as part of the agreement. Council Member Kusterman 95 <br />suggested that he’s heard only good sides to this action; staff wasn’t any to provide any negatives. 96 <br /> 97 <br />Council Member Stoesz moved to approve Resolution No. 15-01 as presented. Council Member 98 <br />Rafferty seconded the motion. Motion carried on a voice vote; Council Member 102 <br />Roeser was absent. 103 <br /> 104 <br />3B) Approval of Annual Appointments- Administrator Karlson noted that each year the council 105 <br />approves a number of assignments and appointments as indicated in the staff report. This list was 106 <br />reviewed and updated by the council at the last work session and is presented for consideration of 107 <br />approval. 108 <br /> 109 <br />Council Member Kusterman moved to approve the list of annual appointments as presented. Motion carried on a voice vote; Council Member Roeser was 111 <br />absent. 112 <br /> 113 <br />PUBLIC SAFETY DEPARTMENT REPORT 114 <br /> 115 <br />4A) Public Safety Department Update- Chief Swenson updated the council. The development 116 <br />of the fire department into the Public Safety Department is moving ahead on schedule. He noted the 117 <br />following: 118 <br /> 119 <br />- South Side Fire Station Project – location, architect and schedule noted; consideration of 120 <br />approval to seek bids for the project is on the agenda this evening; 121 <br />- Thanks to Community Development Director Grochala and other staff for their hard work in 122 <br />keeping the fire station project moving forward, on schedule and high quality; 123 <br />- Recruitment for Fire Department – Centennial Fire Relief has hired a consultant to assist in 124 <br />developing a legislative proposal to allow the transfer of pensions from Centennial Fire to the 125 <br />city’s new firefighter pension plan; 126 <br />- New Fire Recruits – four paid on-call firefighters have been hired as of January 5 and have 127 <br />begun their training; there is an additional applicant in the loop; more applications are coming 128 <br />in; a special mailing will not be necessary considering recruitment response but information 129 <br />will be included in the next regular newsletter; 130 <br />- Training in Progress – There are 12 staff members currently in training as firefighters; a 131 <br />second group of trainees will begin on April 8; by the end of August, the department will have 132 <br />at least 35 trained firefighters; 133 <br />- Equipment – the city will receive some equipment with the disbursements from Centennial 134 <br />Fire District; and grant request is pending with FEMA for apparatus funding; the department 135 <br />3
