CITY COUNCIL <br />AGENDA ITEM 3C <br /> <br /> <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Jeff Karlson <br /> <br />MEETING DATE: July 11, 2016 <br /> <br />TOPIC: Financial Support for Yellow Ribbon Network <br /> <br />VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5 <br /> <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />The City Council is being asked to consider a financial contribution of $500 to Beyond the <br />Yellow Ribbon Community in Lino Lakes to assist the local organization in obtaining its <br />501(c)(3) designation. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />Beyond the Yellow Ribbon is a comprehensive program that connects military service <br />members, veterans, and their families with community support, training, services, and <br />resources. <br /> <br />Community leaders in Lino Lakes have taken steps toward becoming a Yellow Ribbon City. <br />The City of Lino Lakes hosted a kick-off event in October 2015 by inviting people to learn <br />about the program in order to generate more community support. On November 9, 2015, the <br />City Council approved a resolution in support of the efforts by local leaders to create a Yellow <br />Ribbon Community in Lino Lakes. <br /> <br />One of the next steps is for Yellow Ribbon to obtain its 501(c)(3) designation. A proposal was <br />made for the City Council to approve a $500 contribution to assist the organization in this <br />effort. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br /> <br />Approve $500 expenditure from the Contingency Fund for Beyond the Yellow Ribbon <br />Community in Lino Lakes. <br /> <br />ATTACHMENTS <br /> <br />Resolution No. 15-129
